Eternal Forms: Greek Architecture Then and Now
Towards the end of the period of ancient Greece, another Order of architecture emerged. This was based on a legend about the city state of Corinth. According to this legend, a king visited the tomb of a maiden he had fallen in love with and placed a basket of flowers on her grave. Years later he returned to her grave and found that the flowers had grown up from the ground a its vines had grown through the basket. This discovery became the inspiration for a new order: the Corinthian.
